§ 8-5. Court clerk and deputies.

  • The municipal court clerk and staff shall constitute a new city department, operating under the direction of the municipal judge.

    The clerk of the municipal court shall perform those functions set forth and described in section 21-23-11 of the Mississippi Code. The municipal court clerk shall be a qualified elector, citizen, and resident of Yazoo County and shall be appointed by resolution entered upon the minutes of the City of Yazoo City. In addition to the municipal court clerk, the governing authorities may appoint by resolution duly recorded in the minutes additional employees or persons to serve as deputy court clerks to assist the clerk in the conduct of the court's responsibilities. The municipal court clerk and deputies shall receive compensation fixed by resolution of the governing authorities. The municipal court clerk must comply with the requirements of section 21-23-12 of the Mississippi Code of 1972, as amended.

    The municipal court clerk and staff shall be governed by this Code, other ordinances of the city and applicable state law. They shall also be subject to the same rules, policies, and ordinance applicable to employees of the City of Yazoo City.
